Ninth Project Management Meeting, Malta, November 2008

The ninth meeting of the Control of Porcine Circovirus Diseases (PCVDs): Towards Improved Food Quality and Safety Project Management Team (PMT) and PCVD Project Partners took place in Malta on November 27 and 28, 2008.

Progress and deliverables updates of the Work Packages were presented as well as the main achievements of the the project.

World wide information web - from Orlando to Wuhan

The PCVD consortium is actively promoting information exchange. Professor Hans Nauwynck and Dr. Ken McCullough presented papers in a session "PCVAD: Essentials for Survival" at the annual meeting of American Association of Swine Veterinarians, March 3-6, 2007 in Orlando, Florida. Copies of these papers can be downloaded from the publications section of this website. Catherine Charreyre presented an update on PCV2 research progress at the Third Congress of the Asian Pig Veterinary Society in Hongshan Hall in April, 2007. Our photograph shows her in action in the very impressive facilities.


 

Accademia dei Porci Bravi

In April 2007 the PCVD STREP and SSA project co-ordinator, Professor Gordon Allan, Department of Veterinary Sciences, Queen's University, Belfast, Northern Ireland, was presented with the prestigious international "Porco Bravo" award at Italy's Rassegna Suinicola in recognition of his research work. The citation for the award was " For his long and very important research activities on viral infections of swine, and in particular for the fundamental scientific contributions made to knowledge of the most recent emerging pathologies".

Case definition for PMWS agreed by consortium

A much-needed case definition of PMWS has now been agreed by the full committee of the consortium and is outlined below. Now that this definition is in place detailed epidemiological studies can proceed within the consortium using agreed diagnostic criteria.


The PCVD consortium would welcome feedback on their case definition of PMWS.
